ISLA

EXCERPT

Waking up in her dreams is the only way she could describe what was happening to her. She was fully aware that she was in her bed and had fallen asleep, and at the same time in a totally different environment, or dimension some would argue.

"I opened my eyes to blackness, a void, a black hole. I tried to lift her head. It won’t budge. I went to move my arms, but they too were immovable. I was wrapped in something that wouldn’t allow me to move at all. I'm like a mummy, but I'm alive and can barely breathe. I'm running out of air. I want to scream for help, but I can't. I can't panic, damnit think...I have to figure this out quickly. I closed eyes, gathered all the power and force within me, directed it all to my brain, and then there was a breakthrough, a literal one. The bandages slid off my body to the floor and I slowly rose up and focused my eyes. I looked around the small room to see a few stretchers and looked down to see that it’s what I was also on. The two across from me were empty except for pools of blood. Not a moment later, a man came in from another room, swiftly made his way to me to free me from the rest of the fabric. I hopped off and walked past the other beds and thought, "they must not have made it". I walked out the room like I knew where I was going and passed the desk the man must have been monitoring us from and went out the door."
