Daughters of Yehudah

Coming Soon...

DOY is a collection of vignettes and free verse poetry based on Shannon's life experiences with love and relationships.

These words reflect her life through the lens of  being a Black women in America that faces scrutiny and bias in every aspect of life, and romantic relationships are the most difficult it seems.

I Need You

I need you like the earth needs the sun
Like fish need water
I don’t get to choose who
But I do need you
Like anion and cation
It’s the law right
Of attraction
Like Diego and Frida

I need you like Harmony needs order
And for no other reason
Its written
Like light needs dark
They coexist
So we can too
I need you
Like Alfred and Georgia

I need you like people need trees
This world would not exist if they didn’t
Its simple
There is no me without you
Don’t you see I need you
Like Barack and Michelle

PURE

I’ll give him 92% of the purest love

The kind of love that manifests

seals fates

That divine fate

I only need the 8% to walk away

When he’s mad at me

Or thinks I’m capable of doing him wrong

Or if he decides he doesn’t love me anymore

KISS

Was it a dream I ask
See, I was sleep
It's power knows no bounds
It's sweetness is everlasting

A tender kiss it was
His lips pressed against mine
Breaking through my mind field
Like he walked through land mines

To bring me to him
He possessed us both
In that moment
I arose

Only for just a hazy moment
I became aware
And I wanted more
he always pulls away

Energy doesn't lie
It tells a story
Of lovers
Of souls

left without my other half
The connection was lost
But his presence was there
On my lips, he was there

FADED

And when he has done the damage
It won't be easy but I'll recover
lonely days without him
And moving on
I'll struggle to remember who he was

I can't picture him
I can't remember what he looks like
His image doesn't appear in my mind
His face has no form anymore
He has simply faded away

WHAT’S INSIDE COUNTS

If we are indeed made in his image

aren’t we masterpieces?

classic

timeless

crafted by the expert of all things

made up of the finest material

He ever created

what matters most is what

the creator puts inside

all the pieces moving in tandem

it sustains every fiber of our being

We are the masterpieces that never stop

until we stray from the pattern

sometimes are crafted pieces

get out of alignment

So we must stay true to our maker

It is what truly matters

What’s inside

Dolce Far Niente

I lost my poetry flow in 2020
it was organic
it rose up in my spirit
with such a warm feeling
intense it was
now, this talent has receded
and I'm left with this
the world stopped
the earth was still
streets empty
less pollution
the stars shined brighter

already in Isolation
it didn't bother me
made me more creative
sunset walks of oranges hues
the neighborhood cat I nicknamed Thor
midnight on the porch
listening to the cicadas
the earth was healing
zoom overload

long baths with bubbles
and sweet scents
and silence
new recipes
dalgona Coffee
laughs with the neighbors
dreams of the future
and of him
sneaking out for tacos
at the only establishment open
dancing to the music while in line

diy mask making
knitting in the round
coloring pages
copic marker stains everywhere
phase 10 cards on the table
books, and more books
journaling
letter writing

these current days of chaos
uncommon Death
natural disasters
miscommunication
hate and torment
dead frequencies
and still no real community
